Cape Town & Surrounding Areas May 7-15

Safari Day 56 - Cape Town

Made it.  :)  After two months on the road I am finally in a proper city with all the essentials, I have been missing. Checked into the Daddy Long Legs self catered apartment for five days.  The place is nice enough, but it is right on Long Street, which gets fairly loud at night.  I moved to one of the apartments off the street, which worked out a bit better.  Not sure if I would stay there again because some money was missing from my room after the clean up lady came by.  I mentioned it to management,but they said there was nothing they could do.   With that said Cape Town is a wonderful  city.  By far the best city I have been to in Africa so far.

Safari Day 55 - Cedarberg (wine country)

Cool night, stayed at a winery.  We got to tour the grounds and wine taste.  Great last night before heading into Cape Town.  Picked up about 6 bottles for the upcoming weeks in SA.

Safari Day 53 - Orange River South Africa

Finally made it to South Africa, in the home stretch.  Stayed at a camp on the Orange River (border between South Africa and Namibia).  It'a bit hot here, trying to escape the heat.

Safari Day 52 - Fish River Canyon

Fish river canyon.  The canyons were not so spectacular after seeing the Grand Canyon, but it was nice at sunset.

Safari Day 51 - Drive thru the desert to Dune 45

Stopped off in a small town, another German bakery.  I think the German dude was getting high on his on supply.. Must admit his apple pie was tasty.

Safari Day 48 - 50 - Swakopmund

Good to be back in civilization, well Namibia's version.  We are here for a much needed 3 day respite.  I was fortunate to get my own room and a much needed break from the girls on the truck.  Swakopmund is an interesting place, established by Germans.  It has a small German town feel which is wonderful if you like beer.  The Swapkomund Brahaus is excellent.  It by far has some of the best beer that I had in Africa.  The food is excellent as well.  Spent most of my time cruising around town and hanging out at the beach.  Found an excellent pizza place, but can't remember the name, but it is just around the corner from the brauaus.  This town even has a movie hans.  First time on the west coasdt of Africa, beautiful beach town.  I can see why the German tourists flock here.
